THE FUTURE SCREENWRITER'S RESOURCE GUIDE

PURSUING THE JOB
What do I need to become a writer?
A creative mind
Critical thinking skills
Strong work ethic/determination
A good understanding of the cinematic process
Even better skills as a writer
How you learn these skills is up to you. While not entirely necessary, earning a degree in English, journalism, or theater can provide you with vital language skills and give you a substantial leg up compared to those who don’t seek out this education. However, many well-renowned screenwriters come from different backgrounds.

The industry looks at works objectively, putting value on a writer based on what they produce instead of what their experiences are. Many people develop as writers by simply watching more films and writing more scripts. Workshops can help any writer, as having your writings read, reviewed, and re-written is the most effective way to produce better quality work.

Where do I search for a job?
Again, there is no set path towards securing a screenwriting job. You need to catch the eye of industry professionals through networking and submitting scripts to places they would get noticed. Start small; If you’re able to secure work as a writing assistant for a production, it becomes easier to work your way up to a screenwriter position.
